Did you know that astronauts have to wear DIAPERS? Yes, itās true! Did you also know that they eat spirulina, which is a superfood derived from Seaweed. Eww! In this one time class your astronaut in training will learn how astronauts exercise, what they eat, what they wear on a space walk and more importantly⦠where do they go to the bathroom? We will tour the galaxy in our spaceship and fly by Mars on our way to the asteroid belt. Then, we will see the giant storm on Jupiter, bypass Saturn and discover beautiful constellations like the Big Dipper. On our journey we will discover fun facts about the sun, moon, planets and astronauts and make a craft using simple supplies that you already have around the house. Learners will be able to create their craft and share it with their astronaut friends during the class. I encourage students to ask questions and share what they have learned. This is a great opportunity to make friends with like minded students, learn scientific vocabulary and generate a curiosity for science.
Students will be able to
- identify the planets in the solar system
- create a hands on craft
- distinguish differences between the sun, moon and planetsSupplies: We will be making a space helmet. An empty tissue box can make a helmet big enough for a stuffed animal. If you have a box that would fit around your childās head that would be ideal. You could use a brown paper bag up from the grocery store as well. We will also be using scissors to cut a hole in the box for the visor. Please help your child to this. Square Tissue Box (with the cut out for the tissues) or paper gift bag or brown paper bag.
