What's included

24 live meetings
22 in-class hours
Homework
I will do my best to not assign homework. There are some topics that need practice, and may require some homework.
Assessment
There will be two assessments. I will check the students knowledge halfway through the course, and at the end. This will help the student focus in on topics they may need to review.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
This is a semester-long course that will cover topics typically covered in the first semester of high school chemistry.

We will cover the following topics:
Week 1: Review topics covered in Chemistry I (Mole, Balancing Equations, etc)
Week 2: The Kinetic Theory of Matter
Week 3: Behavior of Gases
Week 4&5: Chemical Quantities
Week 6: Water and it's solutions
Week 7: Review
Week 8&9: Acids, Bases, and pH
Week 10: Chemical Reactions and Energy
Week 11: Oxidation-Reduction Reactions
Week 12: Review

We will cover each topic, and work together to understand the concepts. I will incorporate practice into the lesson. I do not like to give homework. The first portion of each class will consist of review, lecture, and then more review. My goal is with reviewing a little each week and practical practice, the students will retain the information without too much outside homework. This class will have an assessment about halfway through and at the end of the class. This is for the student so they can see what they should focus on outside of class. The assessments will be done in class, and include material taught up to that point. I do not give out letter grades. Again, these assessments are so the parent and student know what areas to continue to focus on.

Classes will mainly consist of lecture material and activities. Students will be able to work independently or with others. I like to try and keep the class self-contained. If we are unable to finish an activity, it may be assigned for homework. There are some topics such as balancing equations that may require some outside work. I will contact the parents if I feel the student needs extra help with any of the material. I am available for office hours for any student who may need one-on-one tutoring. When applicable I will use videos to demonstrate labs.

A book is not required, but may be beneficial to the student. Textbooks can be expensive so I would advise looking for an older edition or a free online edition. It just needs to cover the topics listed in this course. If you have questions about a book you want to buy, please message me. I would be more than happy to help you.
Learning Goals
Students will have a basic understanding of chemistry. They will be prepared for further studies in chemistry and have an appreciation for the practical applications of chemistry.

Supply List
Students may want a notebook for note-taking. I recommend having a chemistry textbook for reference. There are digital textbooks available for free.
