Dessert imposters is a super fun way to take all of the baking and decorating skills you’ve learned thus far and express them in a quirky way. A dessert imposter looks like a savory meal, but tastes like dessert. Each week will have a theme and bakers will have a tremendous amount of creative freedom to recreate these iconic dishes using sweet ingredients.

Week One: Viva Italia
Week Two: Taco Fiesta
Week Three: BBQ Bonanza
Week Four: Baker’s Choice

Every week I’ll deliver detailed videos in the virtual classroom detailing my personal project plus tons of brainstorming ideas for variations on the same theme. My way certainly isn’t the only way to re-create these savory delights and learners are encouraged to plan their project, think outside the box, and let their unique style shine. You’re welcome to explore your ideas fully and dazzle us all with your unique interpretation.

In the fourth week of class participants will be set free to choose any savory meal you’d like and create an imposter version. Again, I’ll provide a video offering up TONS of ideas and suggestions. I will be available to brainstorm or troubleshoot throughout the month as well.

In previous classes learners have submitted photos of their work for feedback. In this class, learners are encouraged to submit a video presentation of their work to explain their unique approach, ingredient substitutions, and other aspects of their work. It will be a great way for everyone to gather ideas and inspiration for future weeks!

And.... as an awesome bonus, in week one I'll cover anti-gravity cake options!!

As with previous classes, my instructional videos will feature step-by-step instruction for the skills we'll be focusing on. Students can work at a time that is convenient for them, re-watch the videos, pause while working along... whatever jives best with their creative process. I encourage lots of classroom discussion throughout class. Whether you're stuck on something or jumping up and down with success... share! I love to see it all - from work in progress photos to completed masterpieces. Students can learn so much through classroom discussions and peer review. Plus we all love cheering one another's successes in the classroom. Let's create together!

Fondant experience from either Fantastic Fondant or Cake Critters is a plus, but not mandatory for this class.

Supply List
This is a tough class to provide a supply list for because there is TONS of freedom and creative expression with these designs. However, a class with no plan is likely to lead to chaos. To prevent, the chaos, I have created a weekly planning template (located in the classroom). Take a look at this video - https://youtu.be/SUgpUnbhsBU - to understand how to effectively plan your projects from week to week.

I am a professional baker who has been teaching confectionery arts on Outschool for three years now. I have loved baking since I was the age of most of my learners! In fact, in class you’ll see my beloved KitchenAid stand mixer that was my 12th birthday present and is still a total workhorse to this day!

When my kids were young I decided to take some cake decorating classes to ensure my kids always had show-stopping cakes at their parties. Over time it blossomed into a career beyond my wildest dreams. I operated a bakery for a number of years and eventually transitioned into this ultra-fulfilling role as a confectionery arts teacher.

I love seeing the creativity, patience, and precision that goes into each learner’s work. However, I also love seeing them manage a project from start to finish. I am proud of them when they are faced with a setback in their project and they calmly make a plan B. I enjoy watching them interact in the virtual classroom as they learn from one another and provide feedback/compliments on the work of their peers. There is so much more to cake decorating than just cake. (((Although as an invested parent it is your responsibility to partake in eating their delicious homework – haha!))) These learners grow in so many ways throughout class and it is a blessing to participate in that process.

I am so excited for this opportunity to create with your learner.
