This is essentially a hybrid flex and live class. Participants in this class can also register for the LIVE baking social club that takes place each week. It is a separate enrollment, but is only $1/week. ((That is the lowest price I can set a class in the Outschool system.) Club members meet weekly to discuss current projects, brainstorm ideas, ask questions, and enjoy the company of fellow baking enthusiasts. Why is a flex format positively awesome for baking and cake decorating? #1...
I am a professional baker who has been teaching confectionery arts on Outschool for three years now. I have loved baking since I was the age of most of my learners! In fact, in class you’ll see my beloved KitchenAid stand mixer that was my 12th birthday present and is still a total workhorse to this day! When my kids were young I decided to take some cake decorating classes to ensure my kids always had show-stopping cakes at their parties. Over time it blossomed into a career beyond my wildest dreams. I operated a bakery for a number of years and eventually transitioned into this ultra-fulfilling role as a confectionery arts teacher. I love seeing the creativity, patience, and precision that goes into each learner’s work. However, I also love seeing them manage a project from start to finish. I am proud of them when they are faced with a setback in their project and they calmly make a plan B. I enjoy watching them interact in the virtual classroom as they learn from one another and provide feedback/compliments on the work of their peers. There is so much more to cake decorating than just cake. (((Although as an invested parent it is your responsibility to partake in eating their delicious homework – haha!))) These learners grow in so many ways throughout class and it is a blessing to participate in that process. I am so excited for this opportunity to create with your learner.
1 file available upon enrollmentA very detailed supply list will be available to you upon enrollment. It is in the classroom and attached to the welcome post. Please let me know if you have any questions as you prepare for class. Fondant Supplies: Learners who have taken Fantastic Fondant will likely have all of these items on hand already. If you're new to fondant, you'll need - small rolling pin, Satin Ice fondant, cornstarch, pizza cutter. Learners will need to make a boxed cake mix each week and enough buttercream to complete our project. Buttercream ingredients are as following - butter, powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, and vanilla extract. Participants will need the following piping tips (all Wilton) - 32, 233, 104, leaf tip (your choice), 1M, 1A, and 12. As you can see, our critters are colorful and vibrant. Class participants are not required to stick to the color palettes I have used in the video, but will need gel colors on hand to create their own colorful cake critters.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
