What's included
1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Keeping up with a bullet journal can take as much or as little time as each student wants. It can be done in as little as ten to fifteen minutes a day, or if they love to draw, an hour or two.Assessment
There is not a formal assessment for this class. I will offer an informal appraisal of how each student can further expand skills on their own during the creative process.Class Experience
A bullet journal is a blank dot gridded book where you can design an open gateway to a world of endless possibilities with no limitations on functionality or design. A bullet journal can be used to keep track of goals, assignments, feelings, food, and habits, to name a few. Maybe you need to keep track of your running times for cross country or keep a running list of to-dos for college acceptance. Visual and written notes for your favorite subjects are a great way to retain information. Make a collection for that in your journal. Did your bestie recommend a new show to binge-watch? You can keep a collection of that too. Students do not need prior skills for participating in this class, just a willingness to want to learn ways of time management, draw cool designs, focus on gratitude, stay on top of assignments, sports events, band practice…etc. In the first few minutes of class, we will define a bullet journal and the terms associated with a bullet journal. Students will look at a PowerPoint presentation and reference Teacher Mayo’s bullet journals to see what can be achieved in bullet journaling. Afterward, we will have a group discussion on making a bullet journal work for their life. This discussion will include goal setting, daily gratitude practice, habit tracking, and creating lists of things to broaden their minds and horizons. Then students will explore the many avenues and forms a bullet journal can take by brainstorming different sections and collections they can include in their bullet journal to best suit them. Finally, students will start a design on one calendar month and include one of the sections we discussed: to-do list, habit tracker, daily gratitude, and one collection they would like to start and follow.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to create and keep a bullet journal, a lifelong practice that can help with time management, make and meet goals, stay on top of pending tasks, unpacking feelings, and encourage new things to learn, watch, read, or try in the future.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
I remind all students before class that comments during the discussion are to be kept positive. I will be discussing difficulties and hindrances I have faced overcoming an accident that changed my life and how a bullet journal helped me set goals, stay on top of what I needed to do, and keep a positive mindset through a very trying time.
