Class Experience

In this ongoing club style class, I will help learners be proactive in their planning. Work, school, and personal tasks and events will be documented in the learner's Bullet Journal, a popular planning system which encourages time management, creativity, flexibility, and productivity. Each week we will meet for just under an hour to take a look into the future, planning out the week or month ahead.

The goal of this "planning club" is to encourage teens to be proactive in planning their days, leaving less time to be wasted and leading to a more organized lifestyle. We will discuss time management techniques, how to realistically prioritize tasks, and healthy margins. Learners do not need to have any experience with bullet journaling prior to joining this class. The basics of bullet journaling will be covered in each meeting as needed, and a beginner's guide will be made available to every learner when they enroll. Learners only need to come to our meetings with their bullet journal planner (digital or physical), writing utensils, and upcoming tasks and events at hand.

Each week's session topics will be learner-led, with our flow dictated by the learners' planning needs for the upcoming week or month.
However, in each session we will aim to follow the schedule below:
5-10 minutes: Review our week - Discussion: How productive did you feel this week? What tasks did not get completed and need to be moved to next week? Did you find any areas in which your time could have been used more wisely?
15-20 minutes: Next week's layout - Did this week's layout work well for you? Is there anything you are going to change for next week's layout? We will create our layouts together.
15-20 minutes: Planning ahead - Discussion about next week's expectations: What tasks are high priority? How much time can you set aside for self-care or entertainment? We will plan our week together, adding tasks and events to our bullet journals and predicting our time commitments along the way.
5-10 minutes: Collections - Discussion about new collection ideas. (Movies to see, books to read, mood trackers, habit trackers, etc.)
*On the last Friday of the month, we will look ahead to the next month and create our monthly planning layout as well.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain a good grasp of time management, task prioritizing, and planning techniques, and will be able to express themselves freely in the creation of their planners.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Denelle, but some of my friends just call me D. I love education on all levels, and I teach in many different ways as well. I am an elementary school paraprofessional, working daily with children on the autism spectrum or with ADHD and learning challenges.
I have also taught anatomy and physiology, business and professionalism skills, pathology, and ethics in a post-secondary allied health school.
I have a passion for self-expression, planning, and creative journaling.
I believe learning is best done through several different teaching styles. Teachers are most successful when they teach to the visual, auditory, verbal and kinesthetic learner as often as possible.
I would love the opportunity to teach your children in anatomy, professionalism, and even the art of bullet journal planning and creative journaling!

Experience
Autism and ADHD: Earning my special education degree and working in SpEd classrooms for the last year.

Anatomy and physiology: Massage Therapist for 10 years. 4 years of adult education experience with a focus on skeletal, muscular, and nervous system anatomy in a wellness-based program.

Professionalism: 4 years of adult education in career planning and training in professional conduct and ethics.

Bullet Journaling: 5 years of personal experience and passion for time management and planning using a customized bullet journaling format.

Creative Journaling: 10 years personal experience in illustrative and creative journaling using a wide variety of supplies and techniques. I have led several small groups of people in exploring this style of journaling for expressing thoughts, feelings, and interpretation of reading material.
