This class is so much more than a writing class! Built around the theme of "WHO AM I?", the class inspires students to think introspectively about who they are and the uniqueness they bring to the world around them. It is designed for students in GRADES 4-6 and targets their developmental curiosity about who they are and what they believe. I am a Colorado-certified teacher for grades K-6 and have over 20 years of experience teaching. I've taught in public school, private school, and a variety of homeschool environments including homeschooling my own 4 children. I've taught writing workshops for students of all ages, and I've been engaging students virtually for over 2 years on Outschool.
Students are expected to complete one project at the end of August and the second at the end of September. Therefore, they will need to work on the writing outside of class. The live class is intended to generate ideas, improve writing skills, share ideas, and ask questions. The writing is mostly done outside of class.
Writing notebook (like a spiral notebook) dedicated to this class. Pencils Index cards for organizing information
My practice is to continuously assess students and adjust my teaching accordingly. A written evaluation of the student's progress in writing can be requested by the parent.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
In the first few weeks of class, students will be designing their own haunted house. If students do not feel comfortable with haunted houses or themes related to Halloween, they may choose another project, such as designing their dream room, etc. I welcome people of all beliefs in my classroom, so please just message me if you have concerns and we can figure out a topic for your student.
