Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will learn how to create and perform a joke. We will practice social skills, interpersonal skills, self-esteem building skills, and strategies to speak confidently in public. We will learn how to write a joke, study the components of great jokes and great performances, as well as have lots of fun laughing together.

This class is best suited for those students who have never written or performed a joke. For students who are interested in improving their performance skills, please view some of the other classes offered on my page.

Amira will share her experience performing as a professional clown for over 25 years. Students will learn how to accept when things go wrong and how to think quickly on their feet. If time permits, we may watch videos of examples of jokes that are both successful and unsuccessful performed by myself just for this class. Students will be encouraged to support each other's performances, find their own comedic style, as well as participate as enthusiastic audience members.

There will be enough time to allow for each participant to have enough time to shine and share. Being a good audience member is just as valuable as being a good presenter.

Amira has been a performer for over 20 years. She has felt the anxiety of being in front of a crowd and hoping they will laugh with me. As a mom and educator, Amira is passionate about helping students feel confident when making new friends and learning new skills. This class is a wonderful way for students to find their voice in a fun way.

It is important that learners have parents review any jokes or stories they plan to share in order to ensure only appropriate material is presented in our classroom.

Each student is encouraged to continue to find humour in their everyday life and not take everything too seriously.

Learning Goals

Students will be having so much fun laughing and enjoying jokes that they won’t realize the strong communication, social skills, and self-confidence building they will naturally accomplish.

They will practice public speaking without the stress or anxiety of a typically structured speech. Students will be encouraged to find their original voice and style, as well as understand how to support others when it’s their time to shine.
