Class Experience

***Before signing up for class: Student needs to have Minecraft downloaded on a device. Must be signed in with a Microsoft Account if they wish to join the realm.***
Class experience:
During this four-week course, your student will work through one building project per week. This flexible schedule class will be run in the Outschool classroom.

CLASS FORMAT
In weekly video lessons, I demonstrate a new building structure Minecraft. Then, the learners are given a weekly commission or "client brief": fulfill the "clients" order by creating a particular type of build for them, using that week's new structure. Learners are encouraged to explore their own style and creativity while "fulfilling the brief" (creating for a client).

Week 1: Hidden Doors
Week 2: Hidden Stairs
Week 3: A working Doorbell
Week 4: Floating Fountain

At the start of the week, I will post a brief video teaching the students how to make the new structure. Then students will receive their client brief directing them what to build. Students are encouraged to join the class realm, in which they can explore a collaborative world filled with builds done by students their age. This is a great place to get inspiration and see what others have made. Instructions to join the realm will be included with the first video lesson. Though this is a flex class and students can complete their work whenever, the realm is online and they will likely interact with other students while signed on. ***Students do NOT have to join the realm, but they will have a lot more to explore if they do!***

At the end of the week, students will be asked to post a photo of their build and explain how they fulfilled the client brief. I will be responding to each student individually as if I was the client they were building for. Then after everyone has submitted their build, one student will be awarded Build of the Week.

Learner Teacher Interaction:
I create a client brief of assignment for the students. They receive this assignment after the video tutorial. Students will set out on their own to complete the assignment and return an image of their final product. I will then give one on one feed back to the students as if I were the client requesting the build.

Each week learners will:
* Practice a new building technique along with the video
* Respond to a weekly client brief by completing a project and posting their build
* Finish the project including that week's structure
* Upload their project to Outschool Classroom and receive one-on-one feedback on all submitted work

***NOTE: Students may already be familiar with the taught structures each week. If they are, this class is meant to encourage creativity when following the guidelines of a client brief.***

Teacher expertise and credentials
Howdy! I am a writer and teacher from Texas.

I think social interaction with people your own age is super important, but also a bit hard in these times. In my "classroom" I strive to make a safe and fun environment for your students to not miss out on playing with kids their own age.
I currently host Among Us and Minecraft classes. Both of these are games I learned (and now LOVE) with in the past year. This being said, if your kiddo has a game they love but cannot find a social setting to play, feel free to message me and I can do my best to learn it and make a class.

I have a BS in General Studies from Texas A&M University. I am currently enrolled in a graduate school program and am getting my Masters in Communication.

In my classroom, I value safety, good attitude, and taking turns. I currently do not have academic classes, so my biggest hope is that your student is able to make friends in my classes.
