Breathe Magic to Life: Dungeons and Dragons Character Design 5th Edition
Class experience
US Grade 7 - 10
Welcome, Dungeon Masters, delvers, druids, and dice rollers! In this one time class students will build dynamic characters in Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. One of the most difficult aspects of creating great characters is their backstory and unique features. Almost anyone can follow the rule book to learn how to build a character - but the creativity required takes practice to make these characters come to life. -Does your character have a secret past as a chef who loves to poison...
Students will learn the rules of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition character creation.
I am a 10th grade English Teacher who also teaches Dramatic Writing. I have been helping students create characters in the classroom for 6 years through their writing. Perhaps more impressive (and relevant) is my love for Dungeons and Dragons! I have been playing for over 25 years, and started when I was just 13. I have made hundreds of characters, been a Dungeon Master for multiple campaigns, and I currently am participating in three campaigns as a player.

A character sheet on an editable .PDF will be provided as well as .PDF copies of the rule book for character creation will be given to each student. These are just the standard editions, and students wishing to create non-standard characters should provide the resources required to create alternate characters. A multi-sided dice set would also be beneficial to avoid the online dice rolling that would be required.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Characters created by students may be violent, magical, or disturbing.
We will be using Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Players Handbook. This is not required for the student to purchase, but having access to it might help students explore more about the game beyond character creation. Multi-sided die would also be helpful, a 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20 sided die specifically. If a student doesn't have these dice, we will use an electronic dice roller. I have found these to be less accurate and I cannot guarantee the validity of the dice rolling website in its algorithmic functionality.
