Welcome, Dungeon Masters, delvers, druids, and dice rollers! In this one time class students will build dynamic characters in Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. One of the most difficult aspects of creating great characters is their backstory and unique features. Almost anyone can follow the rule book to learn how to build a character - but the creativity required takes practice to make these characters come to life. -Does your character have a secret past as a chef who loves to poison unsuspecting victims from time to time? -How about a warrior who got his start in a traveling circus wrestling lions sound? Dynamic characters require both positive and negative traits. - Backgrounds - Limitations -Disabilities -Motivations -Fears -Dreams In this class we will cover all aspects of character building. Students can come empty handed and leave with at least a great start to their own Dungeons and Dragons character. We will cover all aspects of character creation from selecting your class and race, rolling your stats, and developing that complex backstory. Students will follow a step by step process along with the teacher, and ask questions or seek clarification throughout the process. The teacher will guide the process, offer suggestions, and answer as many questions as possible. Students can tell the teacher what kind of character they want, and the teacher will try to help students create it. Prior experience is helpful, but not necessary. The Players Handbook for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition would also be helpful, but not required.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the rules of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition character creation.
Other Details

Supply List
A character sheet on an editable .PDF will be provided as well as .PDF copies of the rule book for character creation will be given to each student. These are just the standard editions, and students wishing to create non-standard characters should provide the resources required to create alternate characters. A multi-sided dice set would also be beneficial to avoid the online dice rolling that would be required.
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
Georgia Teaching Certificate in English/Language Arts
Master's Degree in Education from Kennesaw State University
I am a 10th grade English Teacher who also teaches Dramatic Writing. I have been helping students create characters in the classroom for 6 years through their writing. Perhaps more impressive (and relevant) is my love for Dungeons and Dragons! I have been playing for over 25 years, and started when I was just 13. I have made hundreds of characters, been a Dungeon Master for multiple campaigns, and I currently am participating in three campaigns as a player.
