In this class, students will meet the teacher and each other through live chat. The teacher will then mute the students and model the algorithm. Students will then have an opportunity to ask questions and work through a few examples together. Finally, the students will have a chance to work through problems independently while getting support from the teacher. All students will have the chance to ask questions and receive guidance from the teacher. This class is best suited for students who have a basic understanding of multiplication and the concept of division. It is not necessary for students to have memorized their multiplication or division facts.

The student will solve division problems using the box algorithm.
Students will be able to evaluate and decide if this algorithm is a good fit for them.Other Details

Students will need paper and a pencil or a small white board with dry erase marker and eraser.

As a classroom teacher for 11 years and as an instructional coach for 5, I learned very quickly than many students struggle with division. The box algorithm helps students as they are trying to understand division and the place value concepts involved.
