Beginner - Intermediate Level
A 1 minute hip hop routine to Dance Monkey will be taught. Basic hip hop moves will be instructed including: different arm positions, flexed feet, pops and bounces, sways and swings, the grapevine, pivots and posing. My class will begin with a 10 minute warm-up-- a stretch and groove with some of the intended hip hop moves. We will proceed with learning 8-counts to a routine for 30-35 minutes. The last 10 minutes will be used to review and perform the learned routine. My teaching style is teaching 8-count by 8-count, allowing students to practice with me and demonstrate their knowledge of the 8-count then moving forward when a majority of students demonstrate comprehension. Frequent verbal cues, consistent modeling, opportunities for reviewing and allowing questions throughout the lesson incorporated. Interactions with students include opening the floor for questions and connections they make. Reflecting on challenges and successes in learning the routine is optional at the end of class.
Learning Goals
Test Memory: Students will be taught 8-counts and demonstrate their memory of the moves instructed. Modeling of the moves provided for students to follow along.
Build Confidence: Students may feel vulnerable in learning a new skill. I will provide a lot of encouragement and reassurance, empowering students to take safe risks and try new skills.
