Follows Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) Curriculum
Boot Camp is an IEW Writing class for high school students. This class will meet for 4 weeks twice a week. This class will use the IEW writing program. The IEW program assist students with incorporating stylistic techniques to their writing. In this small group session the student will be presented with writing assignments which will allow them to practice various IEW stylistic techniques. Students will learn writing skills from various Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) units. Students will read various sources. Learn how to create keyword outlines (KWO) from the sources. Write 1 - 5 paragraphs from outlines. Students will learn IEW stylistic techniques. ***This may be a fast-paced class for struggling writers.***
IEW Registered Instructor MA in Communication and Training with a concentration in Instructional Design. Former Homeschool Mom - 25 plus years teaching in the homeschool community. I have taught elementary, Jr. High, and High School students in various co-ops and in my home.
Homework Offered
Students will be required to complete unfinished class assignments for homework. Multiple stories will be read, outlined, and rewritten with stylistic techniques. The final assignment must be typed double spaced time New Roman #12 font. Amount of time spent writing and rewriting a story will depend on the student. However, I estimate 1-2 hours a week working on a story/report. Assignments are to be emailed to the teacher 1-2 days before class by 5pm CST. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE EVALUATED. **The student must have access to a printer in order to print out various documents sent by the teacher.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
High School students assignments will be randomly chosen and evaluated by the teacher. The IEW composition checklist and/or six trait assessment will be utilized to evaluate the compositions. A grade will be provided per parent request. ***This may be a fast-paced class for struggling writers.***Grades Offered
