Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
This is a 4 week flexible schedule course, which means there are NO LIVE CLASSES. Each week we will have a new picture book video and prompts to help your builders think of what they can create that connects to the story. Builders will need to login to the Outschool classroom throughout the week to view the video, share their creation, and have the option to engage in discussion about our books and blocks. Learning and playing can be done in your own time which makes it easy and convenient for you! Builders will enjoy the unlimited time to make their creations and an opportunity to think about what their creation is and how to describe it for the class using pictures and videos. This is intended to be a fun, informal class that fits your schedule needs and your learner’s interests! How does it work? What to expect from the teacher: - I will provide a video each week of myself reading a new picture book by no later than Tuesday 5pm CST. This video will also include some prompts to help get your builder thinking about what they can create that connects to the story. - In the middle of the week, I will also post a “scavenger hunt challenge” asking students to look for certain pieces that fit my clues or that may help me build something! (Ex. Something to help a plane fly, something that can move, etc.) - Throughout the week, I will be checking the classroom for student questions/discussion posts to help engage learners in online conversation. What will students be doing? - On Mondays, students are encouraged to post a picture and/or video of any creation they’ve built that they want to show-and-tell for the class. This does not need to be a specific build creation; anything is great to share just to be an "ice breaker" for the week! - Students are encouraged, but not required, to post compliments and/or questions about other student’s creations to build community within our class and build their social confidence. - Students will view the teacher’s book video to listen to the story, and get inspiration on what they can build that connects to the story. - By Friday, builders should upload a picture or video of their creation they’ve made that connects with our story that week. - Please have your student write/talk about their creation in some detail – What is it? What does it do? Are there any people? Are there any moving pieces you can show us how it works? Etc. - Similar to our show-and-tell posts from earlier in the week, students are encouraged to post compliments and/or questions about other student’s book connection creations. SCHEDULE: Week 1: "Down by The Station" by Jennifer Riggs Vetter (vehicles) Week 2: "Pretend" by Jennifer Plecas (imagination/fantasy) Week 3: "Little Excavator" by Anna Dewdney (construction) Week 4: "Dragons Love Tacos" by Adam Rubin (dragons/dinosaurs) If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
