This book will teach themes and symbols through a story about two children that adventure in an imaginary land of Terabithia. Through this book, I will teach children how to read between the lines and connect to a story. There are many lessons to be learned from Bridge to Terabithia. The first fifteen minutes of class will go over what learners read for homework. I will ask questions and spark a conversation with learners. Students will learn how to think at a higher-level and read in between the lines of a story. We will work on reading comprehension, specifically focusing on themes and symbols. We also will make connections to us, the world, and other text.
Homework Offered
Students will be assigned about two chapters every class for homework and a discussion question.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will be assessed based on discussion questions and a writing prompt at the end of class.Grades Offered
Students will need to purchase the book, Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Bridge to Terabithia is a book about two children that make up this imaginary world. There is a tragedy that takes place in this book that you may be sensitive to your child reading about, but I walk them through and discuss specific points with my learners to cope with tragedy.
