Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum
In this three-week teacher-led; 40-minute, twice-a-week course, we will read Book 7 of The Sisters Grimm - "The Everafter War" by Michael Buckley. We will play theme-related games, look at the story elements, and answer study questions for reading comprehension. We will also discuss vocabulary words. This is a book series of nine books. 6 lessons//3 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1NO required reading before the first class.We will go over the reading schedule of this class, and learn how to keep a vocabulary journal. We will discuss the summary and see how it compares to the other books. We will see if we can identify the characters on the cover of our book. We will talk about the characters and the sides of the war they might be on. We will play a game using the title of our book.Lesson 2Have chapters 1 - 2 read before class.We will go over vocabulary words. We will answer reading comprehension study questions. We will create a Venn Diagram using Sabrina and Daphne's characteristics. We will play a maze game using fairy tale clues to complete the maze.Week 2Lesson 3Have chapters 3 - 4 read before class.We will go over vocabulary words. We will answer reading comprehension study questions. We will discuss Henry and Veronica Grimm. How have they changed since they fell asleep? Or have they? How are the girls feeling now that they have been without their parents as compared to having their parents around now? We will play a truth or Fiction game.Lesson 4Have chapters 5 - 6 read before class.We will go over vocabulary words. We will answer reading comprehension study questions. We will discuss the history of marionettes and puppets. We will play observation games and see how many items we can list given 30 seconds to see them.Week 3Lesson 5Have chapters 7 - 8 read before class.We will go over vocabulary words. We will answer reading comprehension study questions. We will talk about the plot of our story. We will guess the outcome of the story and discuss our theories about it. We will play Fairy Tale Bingo.Lesson 6Finish reading the book chapters 9 - 10.We will go over vocabulary words. We will answer reading comprehension study questions. We will talk about the resolution of the book and what may happen after the story ends. We will talk about the theme and symbols of the book. We will draw our favorite part of the book and discuss what we would change if we could.

One of the most frightening characters in the series is actually Little Red Riding Hood-- portrayed here as a psychotic kidnapper. Note that whereas the first three books are fairly light and suitable for 8- and 9-year-old readers, the later books may be too dark for under-10s."
