US Grade 1 - 4
In this one time class, students will learn all about the animals in the deepest parts of the ocean and how they make their own life and adapt to survive. This class will be lecture style, with opportunities for discussion about the how, and the why animals use bioluminescence. We will dive deep into the midnight zone and look at animals that live in the dark. We will discuss what these animals do to survive, and how bioluminescence is helpful for them. We will look at angler fish, sea cucumbers, and jellyfish, just to name a few. Your child will walk away from this with an understanding of bioluminescence and how challenging life in the deep could be.
Learning Goals
Students will form an understanding of what bioluminescence is and why it is used by so many ocean animals.
