****PLEASE READ**** if this course has no openings or times that work for your family, or any openings for fall as you go to register, there is an option for Introduction to Veterinary/ Vet Science Self-Paced This course has the same material but no live classes. You receive the recorded lessons to be completed on your own time.******** Students will learn about some of the things that veterinarians and veterinary technicians do to help keep animals happy and healthy. A brief overview of a variety of topics will be discussed with future classes to be offered with more detail. Class 1- Introduction to the Veterinary Practice Team - In this class we will explore the various roles that veterinary practice team members have in the care of clients/patients. Class 2- Canine and Feline Communication. Students will learn some canine/feline body language signals and why it is important to understand them. Class 3-Restraint, Physical Exams and Vital Signs. In class 3 we will discuss the importance of a pets annual physical exam. Normal vital signs will be reviewed. Fear Free handling techniques will also be discussed. , and “kitty burritos” will be practiced. BRING A SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED STUFFED ANIMAL AND A TOWEL. Class 4- Surgery. Surgery prep, surgery/OR conduct, and surgical recovery will be discussed. A variety of surgical equipment and surgical instruments will be learned. Class 5- Radiology. X-rays and X-ray safety will be discussed. A variety of radiographs will be shown and students will be able to help diagnose the problems. After class carefully selected YouTube videos will be added to the online classroom for learners who would like more information on the topics discussed. There is no required “homework”.

Parental Guidance
Students will be given videos that contain surgery (day 4) as additional learning opportunities after class. No one is required to watch videos that they may think could be disturbing to them.
Supply List
A stuffed animal and a small bath towel are needed for day 3.

I have been a certified veterinarytechnician for more than 30 years, have a MEd from Colorado State University and I am now finishing up my second Master’s program and a Master of Veterinary Education (MVEd) from Lincoln Memorial University’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
I have taught at local community colleges in veterinary Assistant Programs and a variety of Veterinary Science programs for grades 3-5, 6-8, and high school. I also teach at a local private college in their Equine Studies program.
I am also a homeschool mom! At home, my family has 2 mini horses, a paint pony, 4 Nigerian dwarf goats, 6 chickens and 4 cats!
I am absolutely passionate about sharing my experience and love for animals and veterinary medicine with learners and am excited for your learner to take class with me or another of our amazing teachers!
