Class Experience

Young children have big feelings that come and go. It's essential they learn to identify and process them, especially when experiencing unprecedented stressors of our time.

Join me for interactive social-emotional learning through artistic expression. We will explore issues of kindness, diversity, and acceptance of self and others. My teaching taps into children’s inherent resilience and creativity; allowing for constructive problem solving and self-expression through various artistic mediums.

Each session will focus on one Big Idea or Feeling. I will share puppets, songs, stories, games, and craft projects that foster social emotional learning, and strengthen virtual communication skills. (See supply list below)

Session 1: Big Idea: Empathy
Students will develop empathy and communication skills by identifying facial expressions with and without face masks. We will acknowledge that feelings change, and play games that promote self-regulation.

Session 2: Big Feeling: Worry
Students will learn to make worries smaller by talking about them, breathing, and recognizing what we can control to feel safe.

Session 3: Big Feeling: Anger/Frustration
Students will learn some mindfulness and calming techniques to work through anger and frustration in order to problem solve.

Session 4: Celebrating Differences & Inclusion
Students will honor their names, make self portraits, and construct/design a club house where "all are welcome".

Session 5: Kindness-
Students will identify kind acts, what it means to be a friend, and practice sharing and taking turns.
