As students read, they will strengthen comprehension using various strategies, such as visualization, making predictions, making connections, character development, vocabulary. Story themes include, kindness, friendship, and diversity.
My name is Caryn. I’m an early childhood educator. I have Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and my Professional License for teaching pre-school through third grade. I have 27 years experience as an educator. I have taught kindergarten, as well as first and second grades in Public School, with experience working with all age groups. As a classroom teacher, I have been trained in various reading programs and the implementation of many literacy assessments. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham-based instruction and Dyscalculia intervention for all age groups. I also have the Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement. In 2014, I branched out independently providing individual academic support to students ranging from kindergarten to 6th grade in phonemic awareness, reading comprehension and fluency, writing, and math fluency. I also teach a variety of classes to homeschool students, such as American Girl History, literature, and math classes. I love that I am able to expand my services and share my classes with Outschool families around the world! I look forward to meeting yo!
Homework Offered
Weekly Assignments: Students will be assigned portions of the book to read independently each week, along with assigned short answer questions, and responses. Information, responses, and questions will be posted, in writing, in the classroom. Final Activity/Project: Students will write a paragraph focusing on the theme of kindness and friendship while making connections. Students will also create a Wishtree of their own.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
