The teacher will assess the students by listening to their individual attempts and support them at their level.Class Experience
In this class we will focus on learning how to hear sounds in words and use word families to develop spelling knowledge. The students will be introduced to a new word family each week. For example: at, ig, op, ed, un... The format of the class will be the same each week and you can join at any time. No prior knowledge is needed. We will practice hearing and writing the vowel sound and the ending consonant sound. Then, students will listen to words and practice listening for the beginning consonant sound. We will practice writing a variety of words using this word family together on the board and individually so students can practice applying what they have learned. I will model writing a sentence with students together. Then, students will be encouraged to pick a word to write in a sentence on their own. Students will get to share their sentences with the class. During class, I will provide each student guidance and support at his or her own level as needed. I will instruct the students through visuals and oral instruction. I will encourage students to participate by answering questions and writing with guidance or on their own. Students will be most successful in this class if they are familiar with most letter names and sounds.
