This two week course provides young musicians with an exciting way to learn some of the most common chords and strum patterns for the ukulele. Students will learn these in accordance with the Disney song "Lava" from the movie Moana. During our first class, students will learn the basic strum pattern and the three basic chords that are needed to play "Lava". During the second meeting, students will learn how to sing "Lava" while playing the chords they learned in the first week! The week long break between classes will give students an opportunity to practice so that singing along will be much easier! This class will be fun and interactive! I will show the students how to place their fingers for chords and strum patterns. They will also learn the basics of reading ukulele tab so they can learn more chords on their own in the future. And finally, I will provide a written version of the "Lava" song with the lyrics and names of the chords associated with each phrase so students can continue playing the song in the future, even if they forget something! No prior knowledge of music or the ukulele is necessary for this class! It is designed for brand new beginners!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Emily!
I teach beginner and intermediate violin lessons and beginner ukulele lessons. I have been playing music for over 10 years and I love it! During my 10 years of learning music, I have been privately tutored by three amazing professional violinists. I have also taken many university music courses including: music theory, music history, and violin pedagogy. I have been teaching music lessons for the last few years to children as young as five and as old as 17. I love helping people progress through the challenges that come from learning a new instrument. Most of all, I love to see people feeling the joy of music! In addition to teaching music, I love spending time on the beach, exploring museums, and making delicious desserts! I hope to see you soon in my classes!
