CLASS SCHEDULE *Please note when registering that some classes meet two times per week while other sections meet once per week. Young singers will receive musical training consisting of fun vocal technique warmups, age appropriate songs (provided), and musical concepts such as rhythm reading, pitch recognition and solfège (Do-Re-Mi). We will also explore acting through song. *New students who have not completed the first two levels should have a basic understanding of quarter, half, whole and eighth notes. Young singers will have the opportunity multiple times in each class to demonstrate what they've learned for the teacher and other classmates and practice along while others are demonstrating. Class times incorporate: -physical movement -vocal exploration exercises -vocal technique / warmup exercises -ear training and pitch matching -Solfège -rhythm reading -performance -practice of songs selected for children between the ages of 5-9 (songs provided in pdf download available the first day of class) A downloadable picture based packet will available the morning of the first class which include sheet music and coloring sheets related to warmups songs being learned a musical bookmark, A downloadable certificate will be available at the end of class. How is this class different from Part I & Part II? -More complex rhythms and meter will be introduced (whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, triplets and eighth notes) -Memorization will be a new learning goal -Story telling and emotions will be explored through song -Singers will expand upon their previously learned Solfège skills *Participation is encouraged throughout class. Singers who wish to remain muted throughout class may do so. *Singers will be asked to remain muted during instructional and practice time. However, singers will be invited to sing for everyone in the class after practicing warmups, vocal exploration exercises and songs.
Learning Goals
Introduction to singing lessons : how lessons work, setting routines, following directions
Technique: stretches and posture, belly breathing, long supported notes
Ear Training: Matching pitch, identifying and performing high/low and up/down tones
Rhythm: Being able to maintain a steady beat, chanting words and making percussion sounds, Singing in 4/4 and 3/4 meter. Quarter, whole, half, eight and triplet notes will be introduced.
Performance: story telling, diction and articulation, melody, actions
Performance: Being comfortable performing songs for others (each learner will have the opportunity to sing for others multiple times per class.

Sarah LOVES working with young musicians. For 8 years, she was a resident teaching artist for the Lyric Opera of Chicago and taught young performers how to produce, write, and sing in their very own opera!
Sarah has been teaching private and group voice lessons for 20 years and is a Royal Conservatory of Music Elementary Certified Voice Instructor.
