In this ongoing class, students will practice sight words, cvc words, writing, and reading a short decodable story. This class meets twice a week. During each lesson we will learn 2 or 3 sight words, practice reading and writing words with short vowel sounds, and read a short decodable story. We will also practice writing one short sentence each session. A 1-2 page practice printable will be provided each Monday morning. Students will need to have this printed. A whiteboard and marker will also be used every class. My teaching style is very similar to what you would see in a small group lesson in a classroom. Students are given multiple chances for participation and the pace moves along quickly to cover the maximum amount of learning while still keeping students engaged. Students should know most letters and sounds and be able to write letters on their own. This class is the second in the "Beginning Reader Basics" series. This class would compare to skills learned in Kindergarten. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or to decide which level suits your child best. I have a brief assessment form I can send you to complete with your child to help determine which level is most appropriate. *Content repeats after 10 weeks. I have experience as a first grade teacher and as a reading recovery teacher (working one on one with struggling students). I absolutely love teaching early literacy skills and helping students develop confidence and a love for reading and writing!
