Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this course students will gain a good foundation of painting by learning about primary colors, warm and cool colors, shades and tints, and texture for trees. Students will learn how to use different brushstrokes for different textures.

1. Week 1 Primary and Secondary Color Trees
Students will make a tree and will color sections of leaves in the order of a color wheel. Students will learn that primary colors make up all the other colors. Students will learn that two sets of primaries are needed to make proper secondary colors.

2.Week 2 Warm and Cool Colors Leaves
Students will learn to divide the color wheel to show cool colors and warm colors. Students will complete a painting of leaves blowing in the wind. Students will learn how to paint different brushstrokes to show different texture.

3. Week 3 Desert Shades/Tints
Students will paint a desert scene with simple solid color shapes in the background and more detailed shapes in the foreground. Students will learn how to make different textures and how to show distance in a painting. Students will show gradual color transitions keeping in the same general color scheme, for example yellow, orange, red, and brown.

4. Week 4 Textures on an Oak Tree
Students will learn how to make an oak tree out of basic shapes. Then how to use different brush strokes to make the tree trunk look bumpy and wide. Students will learn how to use brushes to make fluffy colorful leaves on the trees.

5. Week 5 A Forest of Layers
Students will learn how to make a forest scene using layers of different shades of greens. Students will learn how to show perspective from overlapping foliage. Students will finish with small details of grass and small plants that will really make their painting stand out.

6. Week 6 One Point Perspective with Trees
Students will learn how to create a painting where all the lines point back to one spot creating an illusion of distance. They will use trees to line each side of their page. They will show a great distance with different size trees going into the background.

7. Week 7 Mountain Reflections
Students will learn how to paint northern rocky mountains and how to mix that paint to create snow on top. Students will use brush strokes to create a reflection in the water of the mountains and the sky above.

8. Week 8 High Contrast Pine Trees in the Snow
Students will paint a night time picture with a bright moon and dark trees. Students will paint snow coming down over the whole painting.
