5 minutes- This will be spent building background knowledge and discussing what learners already know about all types of butterflies. 20-25 minutes- I will read parts of the stories "Caterpillar to Butterfly" and "Caterpillar to Butterfly". I will share facts from the books and share pictures that I have taken of butterflies as well. I will stop frequently to discuss what we've read, point out details from pictures, explain why and how pictures are labeled certain ways, discuss key vocabulary and allow time for learners to share their own thoughts about what we've read. I am offering this class because I love butterflies and nature! Every year, for the past 16 years, I have purchased caterpillars for my classroom and have helped my students care for and observe the process of a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. I have learned a lot over the years :)!
