Class Experience

Beginner Level
This Teen Ballet class will introduce Ballet fundamentals. The class will begin with traditional barre work, such as Plies, Tendu, Degage, Battement, Ronde de Jambe, Coupe, Passe, and more. Students are encouraged to interact with the instructor with questions. We will then learn proper stretching technique away from the barre and work up to splits and straddles. We then move on to center floor work involving body alignment, proper head positions, smaller traveling movements, adage and petit allegro. We will always conclude with the traditional reverence.

Ballet Dance is a wonderful dance style for this age group. It is both structured and technical, but in a graceful, beautiful way. My class is always very positive and supportive of dancers. I want my dancers/learners to leave class feeling proud of themselves!

No experience is necessary, just the desire to learn something new!

June 6-Week 1: Barre work (plies, tendu, degage, ronde de jambe), stretch, splits/straddles, center floor (tendu, arabesque, adage), combination.

Parental Guidance
Please be sure your learner has an open space for moving, free of obstacles. Ballet shoes would be perfect but barefoot will work just fine. Comfortable/stretchy clothing that is not too baggy is recommended. Long hair should be pulled up. A water bottle is always great.
Supply List
A chair is needed to be used as a Ballet Barre.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Manhattanville Colege
I have been teaching all forms of dance for 32 years! I am a 1991 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Manhattanville College with a minor in Dance. While there, I focused on Jazz, Ballet, and Modern. I even performed in the Soviet Union in 1989!

I opened my dance school at the age of 23 and still love it! I teach all ages Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe and Modern. My true specialty is Jazz. I love the energy and unique creativity available though Jazz Dance.

Dance class is more than just "dance". It teaches grace, poise, discipline and self confidence. All qualities that will benefit a student in all areas of their lives.

I have been happily married for 24 years and have a 19 year old son who is a sophmore at Fairfield University. He even competed in Jazz and Hip Hop until 7th grade when soccer took over!

I'm looking forward to sharing my knowledge and love of dance with the Outschool Community.
