Beginner Level
This introductory session teaches learners how to build a simple website using the basic building blocks of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Step by step, I help my students build a web site making use of a simple text editor of their choice, a small amount of space on their computers and whatever browser their systems have. As they follow me in repeatedly making changes to code in their text editors and switch to view the results in their browsers, they will have created a simple website using all 3 building blocks. During the session, I talk, answer questions, and share Zoom screen as necessary.
Learning Goals
Learners will be introduced to web development with the basics: HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The goal here is to help learners see themselves actually (and successfully) build a simple website using all 3 building blocks.
The goal is to make learning website development an exciting adventure that, hopefully, learners will love, and so decide to come along with me for the full set of Beginners Web Development with the Basics courses I offer and make further progress.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm a retired software developer, having 20 years of software development experience, which includes developing a variety of applications (including desktop and web applications), using a variety of programming languages. At the core of all my web development activities were the ever-present basics: HTML, CSS and JavaScript, which I intend to teach on Outschool. While working professionally as a software developer, I personally taught my homeschooling daughters web development during their middle school years. I decided to do so as part of my acting as their guidance counselor to get them thinking of ways in which they might support themselves after completion of school. That is my intended approach for my prospective Outschool students ages 14-18, who will likely be exploring how they will support themselves after leaving school.
