Class Experience

The Montessori method is one of the most excellent ways of teaching Math to children. You will be amazed at your child's comprehension.

These classes are spread over 4 weeks so that we are able to move along in the pace at which the children are learning.
We will move on to other steps in Math as we complete each stage. It is important that parents review what we learn at class so that children are ready and prepared for the next lesson.

Class 1. Number Rods
I will use the Number Rods to present the concept of quantiles in relationship to a number.
The purpose of this activity is for the child to experience the qualities of each number and to learn their respective names. They learn that each number is represented by a single object, as a whole, separate from others.
They gain help to memorize the sequence of numbers from 1 to 10.
Children will work along with me.

Class 2. Sand paper Numbers
In this class we will review numbers 1 to 9 .I will teach the child the symbols for the numbers.
The goal of this lesson is to provide them with the keys to the world of written numbers. We will use Sandpaper numbers/ printed out numbers for tracing which is a preparation for the writing of numerals in the future.

Class 3 I will introduce the Number Rods and Number Cards
In this class the students will learn to relate the symbols to the quantities that they know. They will be introduced to the the sequence of the symbols.
This material also prepares them indirectly for addition and subtraction.
They will also be introduced to the number 10 in this lesson.

Class 4. Spindle Boxes
Depending on how much the students have grasped we will either continue with the number rods in this lesson or we will move to the Spindle Boxes.
This Montessori material which I will demonstrate helps clarify the idea that the symbols represent a certain quantity of separate objects.
I may at this time also introduce the concept of zero and its symbol.
This class further consolidates the fact of the natural sequence of the numeral.

The child is now ready to move on to the next set of Math lessons which can be found among my class listings.

In all these lessons students will be given materials to print out and use once they have enrolled for the class.

Hello,
I am Ann. I love children and I love teaching. I am an AMI certified Montessori Teacher. I have owned and Directed a Montessori school and taught in Montessori schools in Finland, India, and the USA.
I had the high honor of being taught by a student of Maria Montessori. Consequently, I was taught to value the authenticity of the method. Sadly today many use the name "Montessori" in class descriptions as a generalized term and it has little to do with the method.
I have also taught private lessons to children aged 3 to 16 in English, Science, Social studies, Math, Art and Music from many different countries.
As a TESOL certified teacher, I have taught English to adults and children at English Language Schools as well as privately over the years.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Business and Accounting.

My teaching style is enthusiastic and engaging. I enjoy helping absolute beginners and walking with them through their journey of learning and accomplishing of their goals. Although the teaching is done online now I have created materials and means of translating it to reflect the best of the method.
I am able to custom lessons according to my students needs. It is important to me that I teach well but more importantly that my students are learning.

As an Artist I enjoy creating things. I sell my creations at galleries, online and at Art markets. I enjoy teaching children and adults how to create art, make jewelry, knit etc.

As a teacher I am also constantly learning and love to share my knowledge. I believe that learning can be a fun and enjoyable experience!

Thank you for considering me as your child's teacher!
