In this 5 lesson ukulele course, students will learn the 4 introductory chords (C, Am, G, and F), simple strumming patterns, and a bunch of awesome songs! Students receive a digital workbook and flipbook they can print out and use in class.

Lesson 1
Introduction
- Students will learn parts of the ukulele, playing position/resting position, tuning, strumming, finger numbers, reading a chord chart - Students will play their first chord, C - Song: Row, Row, Row, Your Boat
Lesson 2
Chords C and Am
- Students will review chord C - Students will learn to play chord Am and practice moving from the Am chord to the C chord - Songs: My Paddles Keen and Bright, Ho Hey by the Lumineers and Roar by Katy Perry
Lesson 3
Chords C, Am, and F
- Students will review chords C and Am - Students will learn to play chord F and practice moving from the C chord to the F chord, then the Am chord to the F chord and finally moving through all three: C chord to Am chord to F chord - Songs: Best Day of My Life by American Authors, Sunflower by Post Malone and Thunder by Imagine Dragons
Lesson 4
Chords C, Am, F, and G
- Students will review chords C, Am, and F - Students will learn the final chord for this course, G, and will practice moving from chord to chord. - Songs: Skip To My Lou Day, She'll Be Coming 'Round The Mountain, Waka Waka by Shakira - Students will make song requests for tomorrow that they would like to learn to play
Lesson 5
Intermediate Strumming Patterns & Wrap Up
- Students will review all the chords from the course, C, Am, F, and G - Songs: Button You Must Wander, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, all songs from the course - Students will learn new intermediate strumming patterns - Students will learn and play through their song requests.
  • Students will learn the parts of the ukulele, string note names, how to tune the ukulele, how to read chord diagrams, strumming patterns, how to play chords C, Am, F, and G, how to move from chord to chord, and how to play along to over 8 different songs.
I have been teaching music for 14 years. I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Music. I have taught all age groups from age 2 to adult. I have experience directing choirs of ages 6 to adult, early childhood music - ages 2-4, general music ages 2-11, vocal camps ages 11 to 16, and providing private music instruction on ukulele, guitar, piano, and voice ages 4 to adult. I've also directed summer camps for 20 years ages 5 to 16. I have been playing ukulele for 8 years and have incorporated it into my teaching for the last 5 years.
Assessment
Frequency: available upon request
Details: Students will be assessed on their playing through observation. Assessments will be done during class as I travel to each breakout room and check each student's progress. Assessments are my observations and feedback. Nothing extremely formal.
- Students will need a soprano ukulele. Costs range from $40 to $70.
- Students will also need a tuner (or access to a tuner app). Costs range from free (through an app) to $10.
