Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
This is the perfect class for students who want to begin learning the Spanish language. Students will learn everyday basics such as common phrases and expressions, basic vocabulary, and foundational grammar rules.

The topics that will be covered are greetings and expressions (introducing oneself, common greetings, asking and answering "How are you?," and polite expressions like please, thank you, etc.) colors, numbers (including describing age and how many of an object there are), days of the week, months of the year, and family vocabulary.

During each lesson, I will show students a presentation that will teach students each term or vocabulary word within the topic and emphasizes pronunciation and grammar. I will always give students the opportunity to repeat back these terms so that they may practice speaking and perfect their pronunciation. Then students will complete different activities and assessments to help them practice the material and present to me what they have learned. These activities might include things like interactive game-based activities to help them remember vocabulary words in an engaging and meaningful way, self-recorded videos to help students practice their speaking, or worksheets that help students build their Spanish literacy skills. I also like to provide learners with different catchy songs for each topic that they can sing to help them remember vocabulary and expressions. This can be beneficial to students with specific learning styles and makes something like memorization more engaging and fun.

Students will walk away from the course having the foundational skills to have basic conversations in Spanish and to be ready to take a more challenging course and further their Spanish education.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As someone who learned a second language in a class setting, I know what works best and what doesn't. I am not a native Spanish speaker, however I have become fully bilingual after taking Spanish courses from Kindergarten all the way through college. Additionally, I am an elementary school Spanish teacher. I teach students grades 3-4 the basics of Spanish to help them begin their journey with the Spanish language.
