Class Experience

Animals are my favorite thing to fold in origami and these four create a cute set. They make an adorable way to write a note inside to give to a friend. They are fun decorations as well. In this creative art class, I will guide students step-by-step as they craft their own. There's absolutely no experience needed for this class but even seasoned paper crafters will find these projects to be fun and engaging.

*Multi-learner classes will be discounted from the listed price (upon request). Enroll in a class with another learner or invite a friend!

All we'll need is four (or more) sheets of paper that are square (all four sides the same length) and something to draw with. The paper can be any size (6x6" or 8.5x8.5" are good options). I will be on camera throughout the class and additionally share my camera showing my hands so that everyone can easily follow along. I will clearly describe each fold and then demonstrate how to make it.

While there is a ton of fun in this class, it's full of learning too! We'll discuss the geometric shapes used in each pattern, explore how the shapes change with each fold, and learn some names of common origami folds. In addition, we'll explore origami techniques including lining up edges, finding where a fold should go without letting the paper slip, and pressing down an aesthetically pleasing fold. As we progress through the projects, I'll challenge the students to guess what folds we might make to get our next shape.

My favorite part comes after an animal is fully folded! Each student gets to draw their own face details (eyes, nose, and even a cute tongue) to make their animals uniquely their own. They can let their creativity shine! If they are not comfortable drawing their own, I can guide them on how to do that part as well.

Hello everyone!
If you see a class you like but the time doesn't work, I'm happy to work with your schedule. Even if you are in a different time zone or my automatic availability isn't open at a certain time, reach out and there is a good chance I can make something work for you.

A bit about me and my teaching style:
I am passionate about art and creativity. Even more so, I love to inspire that in others. It's not about talent or skills you were born with, it's all about expressing yourself and growing your talent through practice and guidance. I believe everyone has the ability to create masterpieces and should have the freedom to find their own way of making them. I teach with a step-by-step demonstration approach while encouraging students to do it their own way whenever they feel ready to do so. This approach allows for wonderfully blended classes where the less experienced or shy learners can follow along with me and the bolder ones can work in their own way alongside us. Either way, we all end up with unique art we can be proud of and improved knowledge about the art/craft process we are practicing.

My classes are designed to be highly interactive and engaging with questions & answers throughout as well as hands-on activities. Be sure to check the supply list for each class because learners get the best experience when they are ready to learn with every material needed for the class.

In addition to my bachelor's degree in biology, I have a Graphic Arts certificate which I earned from Autry Technology Center. I earned 1st place in state (Oklahoma) and 6th nationally in the 2001 National Skills USA Championship competition in graphic communications. I teach the arts of drawing and painting to adults online on a voluntary basis. I also teach arts and crafts to children as a professional online and as a volunteer in person.
I have over 3 years of online teaching experience with students 4-17 years old. I have also worked with children in person in a variety of settings from my current position as a children's church leader to volunteering in afterschool care for at-risk children.
