***FAQ*** Can we still enroll after the class has started? Yes. Each unit is 3 lessons long with the last lesson being interactive. When we start a new unit, we will start new content which doesn't require knowledge from the previous unit. So feel free to enroll before each new unit. **STRUCTURE** This interactive class is tailored for students who are new to Japanese language and culture. Throughout the course, we will learn vocabulary words and sentences from various anime. The content of the lessons are based on the textbook "Genki" adapted for students in this age group (the textbook is not required for the class). Every 3rd class, learners will be able to share about their favorite anime and give a short presentation of words, phrases, or sentences they've learned from their anime. **SCHEDULE** See the syllabus for schedule. Each week, students will have a new set of sentences and vocabulary words to learn and practice. To enhance the learning experience, we will employ fun & effective language learning techniques to aid students in remembering the sounds and the visuals of the vocabulary and sentences. Students are encouraged to actively participate by repeating words and sentences as well as write the Japanese characters with me. For those who prefer not to speak, taking notes is a welcomed alternative. After each lesson, I will share the slides with the students so that they can review the content at their own pace. I also encourage students to complete the optional homework assignments for extra practice. **PARENTAL GUIDANCE** Please note that we will not watch the movies in class, but we might preview some trailers to practice some listening. However, if students haven't seen the anime, they are still welcome to join and learn about the movies beforehand. Be aware that there may be some spoilers in the lessons. Some of the anime are rated TV14 but I will only show clips that are appropriate for all ages.
Learning Goals
For each class, we will cover materials from Genki Book 1 (vocabulary, grammar, sentences, writing, speaking, and pronunciation).
The textbook is not required for the class. I will have notes for the students.
