In this class, students will learn vocabularies, kanji, and grammar, all of which are the foundation to the next level class. **Please check the class dates & times. ***Minimum enrollment of 2 is required to start a section.

Class Experience

 Week 1
Lesson 1
Weather 1
Learners identify the vocabulary for describing weather conditions. Learners ask and respond to questions on today's weather through role-play. Learners describe what kind of weather they prefer.
Lesson 2
Weather 2
Learners identify the vocabulary for describing temperature. Learners ask and respond to questions on how one feels about the day's temperature. Learners role-play and ask classmates on temperature with given cues.
 Week 2
Lesson 3
Describing Weather: Describing Temperature with Large Numbers
Learners identify the key vocabulary for describing temperature with numbers. Learners ask and respond to questions on temperatures about different parts of the world. Learners role-play and ask temperatures where they live.
Lesson 4
Introduction to Using Adjectives
Learners identify the three different groups of adjectives. Learners compare the difference in usage of いadjectives and na-adjectives. Learners use adjectives appropriately to describe a noun. Learners use adjectives appropriately to describe a noun in a complete sentence.
 Week 3
Lesson 5
Negative Form of Adjectives 1
Learners define how to conjugate いadjective to negative form. Learners use the negative form of adjective to describe themselves and friends.
Lesson 6
Negative Form of Adjectives 2
Learners define how to conjugate なadjective to negative form. Learners use the negative form of adjective to describe themselves and friends.
 Week 4
Lesson 7
Classroom Objects 1
Learners identify classroom objects in Japanese. Learners ask and respond to questions on who owns the classroom objects in the class.
Lesson 8
Classroom Objects 1
Review vocabulary for classroom objects in Japanese. Learners ask and respond to questions on the classroom objects with adjectives to wrap up what we've learned so far.
  • Students will learn to comprehend written, audio, audiovisual, and visual text. Students will be able to make interdisciplinary and cultural connections. Students will be able to communicate interpersonally by speaking with others. Students will be able to communicate interpersonally by writing to others. Students will be able to communicate through spoken presentations. Students will be able to communicate through written presentations.
Certified teacher for Japanese (EC-12), Mandarin(EC-12) and Art(EC-12).  I grew up speaking Japanese, Mandarin and Taiwanese, so I have no problem mixing them up to meet your need. Many years of freelance tutoring experience for Japanese and Mandarin have helped me teaching all levels of Japanese including Pre-AP and AP classes at my former employment at a public high school.

Details: :::Students are encouraged to check the class bulletin board prior to the beginning of each week::: Before each meetings, students are expected to study vocabulary and/or grammar/expression flash card sets. This way we use the class time efficiently for activities such as interpersonal speaking and collaborative writing.
