Fostering independence is an important skill as children grow older. This includes teaching teens to cook for themselves. This can spur a love of cooking or be used simply to ensure that post high school life does not become a bag of ramen nightly nor a takeout central. Week 1Lesson 1Getting StartedIn week 1 we will be discussing what's what in the kitchen, as well as kitchen safety.Week 2Lesson 2Breakfast Time!Week 2 we jump into our kitchens and begin preparing breakfast with creating traditional pancakes, waffles and pancake muffins. This class focuses on reading recipe cards as well as getting creative in the kitchen.Week 3Lesson 3Breakfast Time!Week 3 is all about omelettes, bacon and sausage. Building on our skills, we will get more comfortable frying and using the oven.Week 4Lesson 4Breakfast ContinuesIn our week 4 students will create a breakfast ice cream using frozen fruits. We will discuss creating healthy breakfasts that are fast and easy. Concentrated skills are using a blender and measurements.Week 5Lesson 5Breakfast ConcludesIn our final week of breakfast creations, students will make avocado toast, and a fried egg. We will also discuss the many ways to make an egg. Concentrated skills are frying, cutting and seasoning.Week 6Lesson 6It's Time for LunchAs we begin our lunch creations, students will practice patience and using an assembly line to create Spring Rolls. They are also encouraged to get creative as we learn about sweet and savory tastes.Week 7Lesson 7Simple LunchesThis week, we will begin learning how to juggle different pans at once as we make nachos for lunch. Students will learn about reheating foods and storing leftovers correctly.Week 8Lesson 8Simple Yet SatisfyingIn week 8 students will create Lettuce Wraps while we focus on using flavors from other cultures to create delicious dishes.Week 9Lesson 9Lunch ConclusionAs we conclude our lunch lessons, students will make their own BBQ sauce and doctor up some hot sauce to make delicious Chicken Wings. This week does have a bit of a test as they will be relying solely on the recipe cards to make the sauces. We will also discuss how to safely work with chicken.Week 10Lesson 10Dinner Time!This week we begin our dinner creations with a Mexican flair. Students will focus on juggling different pans again while also learning about preparing ahead as we make Tacos, Beans and Spanish Rice.Week 11Lesson 11Tried and TrueWeek 11 is a fan favorite as we recreate a popular food chain's Chicken Nuggets and Sauces. Our focused skills include assembly line, sanitary work environments and frying.Week 12Lesson 12Healthy Doesn't Mean BadIn week 12 learners will create Zucchini Boats as we work with cutting veggies in different ways.Week 13Lesson 13Dinner is DoneIn our final week of dinners, students will make a stir-fry with meat and veggies. Learners are encouraged to get creative as we learn that the recipe cards can be adapted to individual flavors and the importance of using what we have on hand.Week 14Lesson 14Yummy!!It's dessert time! We will begin our first week of desserts with a traditional Chocolate Chip Cookie with a bit of a twist. Lesson, will focus on portion control, creativity and oven safety.Week 15Lesson 15Baking without the BakingIn this week's lesson, we will make No Bake Cheesecakes as we learn how to make things with little or lessened sugar.Week 16Lesson 16An Old FavoriteAs our lessons come to a close, students will put a little bit of everything together as we make brownie variations. They will have the option to create blondies or frosted brownies.Week 17Lesson 17A Cake GoodbyeIn our final week of class, students will practice a 2 part lesson as we first make a cake from scratch, then mold that cake into cake pops.
