Class Experience

In this fun and interactive flex class, students will learn how to perform basic gymnastics skills. They'll also get tips on being safe while performing all skills learned. In this class, we will emphasize safety first.

Students should practice gymnastics in a safe environment away from breakables. Students should have a soft area like a gymnastics mat, yoga mat, and lots of pillows. If possible please provide an empty wall for students to practice handstands on in weeks 3 and 4.

Here is what the class schedule looks like:

Week 1: Students will watch a video introducing four basic gymnastics skills (front roll, backroll, handstand, cartwheel). They will then practice alongside Coach Kaz in the video. After students watch the video, students will upload a video of them doing the skills they learned in class that day. Uploads are due by the end of the day on Friday of every week. Coach Kaz will provide feedback via video. We will play an interactive game this week to see who has the quickest front roll. The instructions for the game will be outlined in the first video.

Week 2: Students will watch a video on the skills we will be learning this week (straddle front roll, backroll straddle, scissor handstands, cartwheel land on one foot). They will practice with the video, then upload a short video of them performing the new skills that they learned in class. Uploads are due by the end of the day on Friday of every week. Coach Kaz will provide feedback via video. We will play an interactive game to see who can stand up on a backroll. The instructions for the game will be outlined in the video they watched for class.

Week 3: Students will watch a video on this week's skills (front roll step out, backroll standup/pike, handstand against the wall, cartwheel stand up). Students should practice alongside the video with Coach Kaz, then upload a video of the new skills they learned in class. Uploads are due by the end of the day on Friday of every week. Coach Kaz will provide feedback via video for the students to continue practicing throughout the week. Our game this week will be to see who can hold their handstand the longest. The instructions for the game will be outlined in the video they watched for class.

Week 4: Students will watch a video on how to perform the skills this week(handstand front roll, backroll pike, handstand on the wall, big cartwheel). They will practice with the video, then upload a short video of them performing the new skills that they learned in class. Uploads are due by the end of the day on Friday of every week. Coach Kaz will provide feedback via video. We will play an interactive game to see who can do the most steps in a handstand walk. The instructions for the game will be outlined in the video they watched for class.

Throughout the length of the class, we will play a side game, (add on) which will be outlined in the first video for more student interaction.

Coach Kaz will have office hours for students who are struggling with any part of their skills on Monday from 11:30 - 12:30 pm eastern time, or at the request of the student.
