Beginner French Camp: Travel the World!

Are you ready to travel the world? Should we use a boat or a bike to get to Japan? In this short camp, we will learn how to ask for help when searching for a place and we will talk about the different ways we can get around.

Class Experience

Let’s have fun this summer and pretend that we are travelling the world together all while learning French!

This class is a great way to start learning French and no prior knowledge is required. I will be speaking French and English throughout the lesson. A handout is provided but a blank sheet of paper or a whiteboard will do just fine.

- We will spend the first few minutes greeting each other in French.
- I will be using a slideshow and videos while we travel to the different destinations. Students will learn the French words for boat, train, car, bicycle, plane, hot air balloon, rocket as well as restaurant, museum, grocery store, beach, and restroom. They will learn to use the sentence frames “Je voyage en _____” (I travel by ____) and “Où est ______?” (Where is _____?).
- We will play games and make decisions based on the options we have.

I leave my students unmuted so that they can all repeat after me when we are working on pronunciation. Students are only asked to mute themselves when there is a lot of background noise.

*More sections will be added throughout the summer*

Hello!

My name is Yvonne and I am a certified elementary school teacher in Quebec, Canada. I have 5 years of experience teaching in a classroom setting and over three years of experience teaching ESL online.

I am a stay-at-home mom at the moment. I have three boys under the age of 8 that keep me very busy. I'm so excited to have found Outschool because I have missed being in the classroom and teaching subjects that I love. I believe students learn the best when they feel comfortable in the classroom. I engage my students by being genuine, encouraging, patient, and funny. Building rapport and relationships with my students is as important as the content of the lesson.

I have a passion for languages and speak three myself (English, French, and Swiss German). I also get by in Spanish and German. I will be creating French classes for beginners. I want my students to enjoy learning a new language and feel comfortable enough to speak it in my class.

I also really love travelling and have been lucky enough to have visited many countries in Europe, South America, and Africa. I will be offering classes that take us around the world. Some of my travel classes will have a different focus (animals, food, extreme weather, etc.) while others will be more general but focus on a specific country.

I also really enjoy teaching through the use of picture books and will be creating a variety of lessons based on some of my favourite books. I will be creating lessons that focus on making connections as readers. I also enjoy teaching my students the writing process by first exploring different themes and topics that connect with them.

I am very happy to be teaching through Outschool and look forward to meeting your child!
