In this weekly drum workshop, we will cover all the necessary basics of drums and percussion in order to get students making music by drumming. Each week will be different, focusing on a specific topic (based on the group makeup) ranging from drumset technique, music theory, and drumming culture, to auxiliary percussion technique, and more. The class is designed so that students can continue to come back each week and progress by learning about a new topic or skill which they can then take with them to practice/study. Classes will build upon previous material if there are students coming back for more. However, each workshop will be new and designed for beginners to early intermediate, so anyone can jump right in!
Learning Goals
Each week will be different, focusing on a specific topic (based on the group makeup) ranging from drumset technique, music theory, drumming culture, auxiliary percussion technique, and more. Students will learn to collaborate and create in a musical setting.

Supply List
Pair of drumsticks! Vic Firth and Promark make quality sticks! You will also need a surface (any surface) to tap on. A drum pad is optional and will reduce noise and add an authentic drumhead feel. I am using an "HQ Realfeel" pad. The camp can also be done by patting with hands! But, you may not be able to get as much out of the stick grip part.

I have led drumming workshops with elementary school kids through Iowa State University.
