Class Experience

This class will cover the ballet basics inspired by the classical ballet 'The Nutcracker.' This class is best suited for students without any prior ballet training or no more than 2 years. The class will begin with the story of 'The Nutcracker' followed by a warm up/stretch to get everyone's bodies moving and the blood flowing. It will then progress into ballet movements. The goal of this class is to teach beginner ballet terminology, have the dancers start to develop a sense of coordination throughout the body, and teach the etiquette of this art form. I will demonstrate for the students to follow along, but when I believe the students have a suitable grasp I will step aside to watch and give feedback to the students. The dancers are encouraged to as questions and interact throughout the class!
Learning Goals
Students will learn basic ballet terminology, start to develop a sense of coordination throughout the body, and exercise proper ballet etiquette.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Kristen. I just graduated from Mercyhurst University with a B.F.A in Dance with minors in Psychology and Dance Pedagogy. During my time there, I was a campus ambassador, served in many leadership roles, taught dance classes to non-dance majors, completed a teaching independent study, and arts administration internship with a nationally recognized ballet company, to name a few. My work experiences are diverse and include things such as being a resident assistant for summer dance programs, a waitress, PCA, and teacher/mentor for an adaptive dance program. I am always eager to continue learning and improving myself. I recently completed my masters in Dance Education at New York University and am currently dancing as a trainee with The Ballet Theatre of Maryland! Kristen Faraclas is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 7 & Partnering.

My main focus when teaching is to ensure a positive and encouraging classroom setting that is accessible and welcoming to all. My goal is to provide a both physically and mentally challenging class without exceeding the capabilities of the students. I aspire to not only teach the proper execution of dance technique, but to also inspire my students and help nurture their passions. I am so fortunate to have had so many wonderful and amazing teachers over the years whom I could learn from, and I hope to be able to further share and pass this along as they have done for me.

I would like to best be able to fit the needs of my students. Therefore, I encourage you to message me with any questions, comments, or requests you may have! I would also appreciate reviews and sharing my classes with family and friends. I wish you all the best health and safety during these times, and am both very grateful and excited to be teaching young students on this platform!
