Class Experience

In this semester based class students will create a craft or piece of art each week. Supplies needed will be used in multiple lessons. Project’s are as listed below. This class is very laid back as I believe you are more creative and receptive in a welcoming environment. Students are welcome to bring a drink to class (I bring a cup of coffee!). I often play instrumental / Lo-Fi music in the background as we learn.

Week 1-Drawing Fruit! (Still Life Drawing)
This lesson covers aspects of still life art. The Student will learn how to draw three pears and shade them to give the illusion of shadows and depth. Supplies include Sketch paper, an Eraser and two sharpened Pencils. If the student completes the first portion we will also draw lemons in a similar fashion.

Week 2- Painting Fruit (Water Color)
The student will learn to paint the pears/lemons they drew last week in class using water color techniques. Supplies include the drawing from the previous class, a water color palette, small glass of water and a medium size paintbrush and paper towels/Napkins.

Week 3- Container Collage
”Scrapbook” a used container with Collage Art. Supplies include an old container of any size. This could be a Pickle jar, Coffee container, Formula Can ETC.
You will need Paint (Your choice of color) and various Stickers- Old Magazine cut outs,
newspaper clippings or you may print comparable clippings found online. Your overall theme can be choice of color OR choice of clippings.

Week 4- Something Fishy
Print off the Fish picture provided in the classroom. Student will pick a color palette of their choice. The student must stay within the chosen color pallet and practice shading to create a depth effect. Supplies Can be Colored Pencils or Markers.

Week 5- Customized Tumbler
Student will learn how to create a custom cup, β€œtumbler” that is safe to wash and drink out of. You will need a Cup, Coffee mug or Tumbler, Vinyl letter stickers for students name, Various vinyl stickers of students choice (make sure they are not thick) and dishwasher safe Modge podge.

Week 6- One Point Perspective Drawing
Student will learn how to create a full scene including a road, sky, trees and buildings from one point. Supplies include sketch paper, two sharpened pencils, a ruler and an eraser.

Week 7- Painting your One Point Drawing
Students will use watercolor to paint the one-point perspective drawing they created in week 6. Students will need their Point picture, watercolor palette, water, medium paintbrush and paper towels.

Week 8- Moldable Clay Art (Air-Dry Clay)
Students will use Moldable Clay to create an animal, plant or object that reminds them of their-selves. Ex. A tree, a heart, a cat etc. When the student is finished the project can be left out to air dry. Once dry, the student can paint or color with Markers.

Week 9- Shading and Pop Art (Name)
The student will learn to create their name as shade art with colors of their choice. They will then use a black marker to β€œdoodle” around their shaded name creating β€œPop Art”. This looks really cool when framed but is optional.

Week 10- Create the Class listing Picture as a Self-portrait on Canvas
For the last project students will re-create the class photo but as their own self-portrait. They will need to print the base photo from the classroom and use a glue stick to adhere to their canvas. The student will then draw aspects of themselves (Long Hair, Jewelry, Clothing ETC.) and then color the photo with their choice of Markers or paint.

Some projects may take longer than others and require work in between classes. My teaching style is very laid back. The goal for this class is to develop critical thinking, express creativity, gain artistic skills and have fun in a relaxed environment.
Learning Goals
Students will learn hands on how to create various projects and crafts. They will learn to incorporate their own creativity into their Art while also gaining artistic skills to help them create future projects.
