In this one time introductory class, students will become super summarizers as they learn what questions to ask when reading in order to learn how to recall key details and find the main idea.

In this class, I will read aloud the informational book "Time to Train Your Brain". This is purposeful in working through the comprehension component of this lesson. We will also learn some fun tricks to help us study as an extra bonus! Students will learn to ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in the text. Students will ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of the text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. Students will determine the main idea of the text and be able to recount the key details. They will use this information to explain how they support the main idea. I love allowing students to engage and connect as learners in every way possible. We will be utilizing Nearpod to further engage and collaborate as we discuss what it looks like to become Super Summarizers!

A handout will be provided as a guide in answering our "W" questions. Students are welcome to print it out before the class or use it as a reference for future classes.
