What's included

6 live meetings
4 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be invited to practice what they learned with their dog or a stuffed animal. This is encouraged but is not a requirement.
Grading
Students will earn a Certification of Completion at the end of the program.

Class Experience

Welcome to our exciting 6-week Youth Dog Training Class! This course is designed for young dog enthusiasts who are eager to learn about responsible dog ownership and positive reinforcement training techniques.

In this class, students will learn fundamental concepts of dog behavior, dog body language, positive reinforcement training methods, foundational skills, and responsible dog care practices. 

Week One:
- Dog Behavior
- Body Language
- Understanding and Meeting a Dog's Needs
- Safety Around Dogs

Week Two: 
- Positive Reinforcement Training Techniques
- Foundational Skills (Touch, 3-2-1 Game, Charging a Clicker)

Week Three:
- Puppy Training (House Training, Crate Training, Socialization)

Week Four:
- Basic Skills (Sit, Stay, Come, Leave It)
- Tricks (Shake, Spin)

Week Five:
- Leash Walking
- Recall

Week Six:
- Addressing Common Behavior Concerns
- Review of Skills Learned

Class Structure:
The class is structured into six weekly sessions, each focusing on specific topics. Each session will include a blend of interactive activities, practical demonstrations, and hands-on practice.

Teaching Method:
We utilize a hands-on and interactive teaching approach. Lessons will include engaging demonstrations, role-playing exercises, games, and interactive discussions.

Teaching Style:
Our teaching style is fun, interactive, and supportive. We foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment to boost confidence and enthusiasm.

Required Experience/Knowledge:
No prior experience or specific knowledge about dog training is necessary. Enthusiasm for learning about dogs and a passion for understanding animal behavior are all that's required.

Students do not need a dog to participate in class. Students are welcome to practice using a stuffed animal. 

At the end of this Youth Dog Training Class, students will not only gain valuable knowledge about dog training and responsible ownership but also develop essential life skills such as empathy, patience, and effective communication. As with all my classes, if your child is non-verbal and/or has different abilities, please know they are more than welcome to join!

Learning Goals

This program aims to equip students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to responsibly and effectively interact with dogs, fostering a safe, enjoyable, and mutually beneficial relationship between them and their canine companions. This program goes beyond simply teaching cues and skills. It emphasizes the importance of building positive relationships between humans and animals by promoting empathy and understanding.
