Become a Super Reader: Reading Using Comprehension Strategies
Students will practice using comprehension strategies like "Asking Questions", "Predicting", "Summarizing" and more in reading passages at their level. They will be guided through reading passages and engage in fun activities to practice.

Beginner - Intermediate Level
This is a nine-week class that meets 2x per week for 45 minutes each session. This class is primarily focused on instructing students 7-10 years old on their reading comprehension skills. We will focus on 9 key reading comprehension strategies that students can use when learning to comprehend works of fiction. Each week, we will be concentrating on a new strategy and each session will include new stories and activities to help them practice the skill that we are working on. Our key skills will be: Asking Questions, Determining Importance, Inferring, Making Connections, Monitoring Comprehension, Predicting, Summarizing, Synthesizing, and Visualizing. The goal is to get them to use all of these skills to help them really understand what they are reading and be able to answer questions, apply lessons to their own lives, and engage with the reading on a deeper level. Lessons will meet Common Core Standards.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to monitor their comprehension when reading a fiction story. Students will learn to stop and think to help them better understand their reading. They will also identify tricky vocabulary.
Students will learn to make predictions about a fiction story. They will learn to revise predictions and to provide evidence for their prediction.

Parental Guidance
May use Google slides, Google classroom, and Nearpod for some lessons depending on the content.
NEARPOD: You will not need to set up an account for this, but will need to have access to the internet during our zoom lessons to use the access code that Mrs. A gives the students to access your lessons for Nearpod.
Google Slides: Will be used within the context of zoom and you do not need to have any additional account for that.
Google Classroom: May be asked to add to Mrs. Acheampong's classroom if the parent's have requested additional homework or performance reviews of students. Extra assignments may be posted in the classroom for such cases.
