Class Experience

Join me for a fun, informal art camp where we meet three times to create paintings of three different styles of butterflies. I will lead students in a step-by-step process of how to use their unique style to make their very own artwork.

Topics to be discussed will be:
-Choosing colors-how to and what colors are appropriate for this topic
-Using dark and light shades to show depth in your artwork.
-How varying brush strokes (soft and hard) and the size of the brush will help create shadows, depth, and a variety of visual differences.
-Creativity-how using your own unique style creates the perfect art piece.

Students will learn:
-Day #1: Introduction to Butterflies and Butterfly trivia. A step-by-step process of drawing and painting the 1st butterfly.
-Day #2: Butterfly story. A step-by-step process of drawing and painting the 2nd butterfly.
-Day #3: Butterfly story. A step-by-step process of drawing and painting the 3rd butterfly.

I am a high energy, encouraging teacher and my classes are hands-on and engaging. I use various methods to help children learn to paint a unique art piece. These methods include: reading stories related to the topic, color theory, drawing technique and lots of lively discussions.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of art and painting by discussing and putting into practice the use of varying colors, depths, brush strokes, and their unique style. Students will also have an enjoyable time using art to connect with a topic they are interested in.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I owned my own business where I painted custom signs for clients. My specialty is painting wording but I also did many pieces where I painted objects such as barns, vehicles, flowers, unicorns, and trees.

I’ve also been a teacher, in various settings, for 17 years. I’ve taught ages 4-18.
