Class Experience

Hello and welcome!
In this Flower Dissection Lab, students will learn the anatomy of a flower by dissecting flowers and sketching what they see. Using a macro lens, I will guide the students to find the parts of the flower during the dissection. Students will sketch what they see in their science notebooks. After we go over the basic flower anatomy, I will use the macro lense to show the students how flower anatomy is different bewteen flower types (different flower types will vary depending on my local availability). Students will need to bring a flower of their choice and science notebook to class. I recommend bringing flowers with visible stamen (like lilies, tulips, hibiscus, etc.) because they have bigger parts that are easier to dissect. I will provide a flower template students may use to reference during the lab.
At the end of class, I will quiz the students on flower anatomy.

This is a highly interactive class in lab format. I recommend students work on a hard surface that is easy to clean.
Learning Goals
Students will know the parts of a flower and why they are important by the end of class.

**SCHEDULE NOTICE**
Hello Parents and Students! Thank you for taking interest in my classes! I will be on a temporary hiatus. I will be expanding my class content

Hello and welcome!
With fourteen years experience teaching and tutoring, my passion for inspiring my students to investigate the world around them has only continued to grow with each year.
As a teacher, my goal is to build my students' confidence and knowledge by giving them the tools they need to become great investigators and problem solvers. Topics we will explore a variety of topics that fall under biology and animal sciences. Students will learn how to conduct their own scientific investigations, collect data, and observe the beautiful world around them.

I have a Bachelor's in Biology. I have three years teaching experience in the classroom and online. I also 13 years tutoring science subjects for grades K-12 up into college level biology courses. Besides teaching, I spent four years in field research monitoring wildlife populations, and two years in the lab on research projects for Cystic Fibrosis and Pancreatic Cancer.
I spend my free time gardening, trying fun new recipes, and playing a little bit of Animal Crossing.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you in class soon!
