Class Experience

Congratulations, you're an adult! You have your own job, your own home, and make your own rules! You have your life all figured out, but how will you handle when unexpected life events happen?

In this class, learners will use their math and critical thinking skills while playing a game I created called "Adulting". The game will be sent as Printable files along with video instruction on how to set up and play the game. The learner will choose their job, housing, and goal. As they navigate through the game, they will decide whether or not they will pay for expenses and try to avoid "unexpected events". But just as in life, they never know when or what unexpected life event will occur! When this happens, learners will have options to earn extra income or take out credit. Students can choose to play the easy version to have fewer opportunities to land on the "unexpected events" space.

Learners can play alone or with their parents to spark conversations about money management and develop healthy financial habits. Adulting simulates situations learners may face in adulthood, managing thousands of dollars on a monthly basis. For those looking for a less advanced challenge, there’s a junior version that deals with hundreds of dollars on a weekly basis, featuring age-appropriate jobs, smaller expenses, and no housing.
Learning Goals
Students will develop problem-solving skills by reacting to unexpected financial situations, such as unforeseen expenses, and learn strategies for managing these events effectively.
Students will learn the importance of building and maintaining savings for future needs or emergencies, and how saving can help them achieve long-term financial goals.
