In this one-time class, learners will create and design a Valentine's poem for a special someone (a family member, friend, even a special pet!) using similes and limericks.

Happy Valentine's Day! This one-time class will combine visual and mental creativity as learners dive into poetry by creating their own limerick for a family member, friend, or even their pet! Class will begin with learning about what a simile is and how to write a limerick poem. Learners will have an opportunity to choose someone special to write a limerick about, including a simile in their poem. They will also get to design and decorate their valentine so it can be ready to give on February 14! This activity is a great way to practice writing as well as develop figurative language and poetry skills.

Class will be instructed using google slides for presentation.

Learners can print out the handout or bring a blank piece of computer or construction paper, pencil, markers, and scissors.
