Class experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn the basics of photography from where photography came from, where it is now, and where its going, as far as we can tell. This is a first level course designed to just introduce the student to photography.
I have been teaching for over 13 years and I have taught photography on Outschool since 2019. I am also a family photographer which qualifies me for teaching this class as well.
Homework Offered
Homework will take 1-2 hours each week and will include answering questions from what was discussed, taking photos and researching topics to bring information/photos to class.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

CAMERAS: A digital DSLR is highly recommended, which can be bought, borrowed, or rented from various photography equipment sites, friends or family, however a basic point & shoot or phone camera works well too.

APP: For phone cameras only, there is an app called Lightroom Mobile app (link above in materials) that has some of the same settings as a digital DSLR and is also highly recommended if a phone camera is being used, but is not required. Also the Lightroom Mobile App is a phone camera app that is a camera as well as an editing tool. I recommend the camera app because it offers shutter speed, exposure, white balance, and ISO options. The app currently has a 7 day free trial, then it's $4.99 a month. If you do not want to use this app, feel free to find another one with the options listed is possible. It is highly recommended but not required.

BINDER or FOLDER: There will be notes attached in the classroom before class each week, and I recommend printing them and using them in class to follow along and refer back to later. You may want to hole punch them and place them in a binder or put them in a folder.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I am utilizing Spark, an Adobe product, through screen share only, to create my presentations for class. I am also using YouTube videos that either I created or that already exist on the platform. I be sure to keep them all kid friendly. I also don't show the whole video and just pick out sections that support my teaching.
