The topics we will cover in this class are: The Life Cycle of the Bat; along with: 1. Simple bat anatomy 2. Where do bats live? 3. What do bats eat? At the end of class we will put our bat models to the test and see whose bat can fly the farthest on a string!

Supply List
Handouts with hands on bat anatomy labeling and life cycle will be provided. Students will need some tape, scissors, a plastic drinking straw, about 20 q tips, and string (sewing thread is fine, nothing to thick that it can't be threaded through a drinking straw--the idea is our bats will zip line on the string with the straw attached to its spine) .They will also need an assistant to hold the other end of the string or yarn to test out the bat at the end of class!
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am Amber! I have lived in North Carolina all of my life! I graduated from the University Of North Carolina in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Currently, I am pursuing my Masters of Education Degree. In the last 12 years, I have taught public middle and high school science and have transitioned to homeschooling my own 5 children.
This past year I ventured into teaching English as a second language as an online foreign exchange teacher. I love every moment in the classroom with my new friends across the world. Sharing our love for learning while enjoying the cultural differences is amazing. Online instruction has opened my eyes to so much diversity and I love the passion that comes with each student who takes my classes.
While I specialize in Science instruction, I also have a passion for art, sewing, nature, farming and homesteading. I also have a passion for special education. I have experience with children who have social, emotional and behavioral challenges. If your child suffers with Autism, ADHD, or other emotional or learning disabilities I would love the opportunity to make accommodations and work with their needs and highlight their strengths and abilities.
