Class Experience
US Grade Preschool - Pre-Kindergarten
Beginner Level
Boy, what fun for little ones! Does your child know the Basic Language Concepts? Spatial, Quantitative, Temporal, Attributive, Negation? We will go over these basic language concepts in class. These concepts are sometimes taught in speech therapy as a language skill. However, teachers also teach these concepts. The parent will receive a handy PDF on the ages where the basic language concepts develop. These are usually referred to as learning prepositions. Basic concepts will lead to a better understanding of beginning mathematics. 1. Spatial Concepts: such as up/down, "above," "below," "next to," "inside," "outside" 2. Quantitative: such as same, different, separate, together, big, small. 3. Temporal: before, after, first, next, last, during 4. Attributive, Negation: shape, size, color, length, type, and other characteristics of objects. Which is not? What shouldn't she do? Why can't he do that? Basic concepts are words that depict location (i.e., more/less), number (i.e., first/second), descriptions (i.e., big/little), time (i.e., old/young), feelings (i.e., happy/sad), and more advanced concepts. But not to worry as my puppets will make this so much fun for your little one. These young children need activities presented entertainingly and engagingly so I will make sure to transition the tasks accordingly with short educational video clips that I also made following the Waldorf technique with Cowboy Joe and me in the videos. We will end the class with a related song to reinforce what was learned. Each class will not be dependent on the last class and will be repeated when they cycle over 4 classes for the learner to remember the prepositions and concepts they had learned. Repetition is key for these little ones. I will be using various puppets as my "assistants" to engage these young learners as I find that at times children respond so much to my funny puppets such as "Puppet Tina, Teacher Betty, Cowboy Joe" & more. It may look like we are being "goofy" however I have an eye for detail and will be teaching while doing these funny antics. I keep my classes at 30 minutes as I find the attention span of young learners may "wax and wane" a bit! Teacher Ruth and her puppet friends can not wait to see your child in class! - Teacher Ruth
Learning Goals
The student will expand their basic language concepts w/ explicit training activities geared to teaching the child to "see" the patterns of concepts shown. A helpful brief basic concepts PDF pertaining to these will be sent to the parent which shows age of development as you play with your child at home using the concept words.
